Volunteer opportunities exist within Elmore County VOAD's member agencies. Agencies need help with administrative duties, case management, CERT response, disaster and first aid response, and spiritual counseling. Some volunteer positions require specific training. See the Organizational Chart(s) in the Photo Section of this website for more information.
Volunteer Reception Center (VRC)
Perhaps the largest group of positions needed to be filled. The VRC provides a location where both affiliated and unaffiliated volunteers to report prior to entering the disaster area. Affiliated volunteers are those who are attached with a specific organization (i.e. Southern Baptist Chain Saw Team). Unaffiliated volunteers are those who are volunteering on their own with no attachment to a specific organization. Regardless of their affiliation, all volunteers must to be registered, receive a work assignment that is applicable to their skill sets and their total number of hours of work documented. Do you have a passion to help others in a time of need? Do you have time to sit down with a disaster victim and help them through the processes to return their lives back to "normal". Case Workers are individuals who provide and coordinate social services to clients and their families, assesses the client's basic and in-depth psychosocial, financial, cultural, and family situation. Administration and Clerical
Performs administrative duties to help paid staff in the Emergency Operations Center. Responsibilities may include answering calls, taking messages, and assisting clients with basic referral information. Some computer and internet research skills are helpful. Responds to all phases of disaster including preparation, response and recovery. This is a hands-on field-work position. Volunteers may be assigned to processing volunteers who have responded to a disaster. Some volunteer jobs have specific educational requirements. Some volunteer jobs will require background checks. Faith-based organizations exist throughout the county along with volunteering areas wtih the American Red Cross and other nationally organizations agencies. CERT Training -- Community Emergency Response Team
Elmore County Emergency Management Agency strongly encourages individuals to become better trained to handle emergencies by offering Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training.
CERT training will:
- Educate individuals about Disaster Preparedness for hazards that may impact their area;
- Trains individuals in basic disaster response skills, such as:
- Disaster Medical Operations (First aid, triage and treatment)
- Fire Safety
- Light Search & Rescue
- Incident Command System (team organization)
- Disaster Psychology
Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist their families, neighbors, and/or co-workers following an emergency in the event professional responders are not immediately available to help.
